Ambassadors for Peace

Ambassadors for Peace

The Ambassadors for Peace Initiative is a worldwide network of leaders dedicated to transcending racial, religious and ethnic boundaries to promote a world of genuine peace. Launched in 2001, Ambassadors for Peace has become the world's largest and most diverse network of peace leaders. They come from all walks of life representing all races, religions, nationality and cultures, and commit themselves to:

  • Stand on the common ground of universal moral principles, committed to promoting reconciliation, overcoming barriers, and building peace.
  • Form a global network of leaders representing the religious, racial, and ethnic diversity of the human family, as well as all disciplines of human endeavor.
  • Participate in peace initiatives and programs that promote reconciliation and cooperation beyond traditional boundaries of religion, race, ethnicity, and nationality.
  • Promote and practice the ethic of “living for the sake of others” as the guiding principle for building world peace and a global community.

The network of Ambassadors for Peace includes a wide variety of people, such as diplomats, clergy, civic leaders, artists, athletes, students, scholars, lawyers, health professionals, businessmen, journalists, and current and former heads of state.

The Ambassadors for Peace principles can be summarized as follows:

  1. God - We are one human family created by God.
  2. Spirituality - The highest qualities of the human being are spiritual and moral.
  3. Family - The family is the "school of love and peace."
  4. Service - Living for the sake of others
  5. Unity - Peace comes through cooperation beyond the boundaries of ethnicity, religion, and nationality.

Ambassador's Corner: Reflections and Commentary - The Hopes of Iraq
Written by Dr. Safaa Al-Mayahi
Tuesday, 01 February 2005 13:00
I have been asked to share my views about the historical Iraqi elections and I am honored to do so. However, I must take this occasion to tell you that I would not have this opportunity if it weren’t for one significant event that took place in my life. I was presented an award for merely living my passion and doing my small part in helping create a free Iraq. I am Dr. Safaa Al-Mayahi and on March 23, 2004 at the Dirksen Senate Office Building, Washington DC, I was presented the Crown of Peace Award. Somehow, my life’s passions were in alignment with the Reverend Dr. Moon’s vision of peace. This was such an incredible moment for me because I was recovering from a personal tragedy. Just 18 days before the awards banquet, my two sisters lost their lives when a car exploded as they were walking home in Baghdad. My hopes were restored that evening in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, when I heard all the religious leaders speak of peace.

The Way of Islam
Written by Imam Dr. Abduljalil Sajid
Tuesday, 01 February 2005 11:00

Let me begin by distinguishing Islam from Muslims. Most people treat Islam and Muslims as synonymous and mutually interchangeable terms, often saying "Islam" where they ought to say "Muslims" and vice versa. In my opinion, the word Islam should be used exclusively for the “Way of Life” based upon divine sources: the Book known as Qur’an, “the word of God,” and Sunnah, “the proven practices of the Prophet” (peace and the blessing of God be upon him). Muslims as human beings are free to abide or deviate from divine guidance as they feel, according to conscience.
