"Prayer for Peace" Steps of the Utah State Capitol Salt Lake City, Utah - September 21, 2008
On September 21, local Ambassadors for Peace gathered on the steps of the Utah Capitol, in support of the United Nations International Day of Peace. We invited local ministers from various religions to join us in praying for peace.
As we gathered on the steps, Wendy Stovall, Utah UPF coordinator began by welcoming everyone and read the UPF proclamation. She then invited Elaine Emmi of the Quakers and former chair of the Interfaith Roundtable to begin the prayer. Elaine asked everyone to make a circle and join hands as we prayed silently. Rev. Michael Stovall of the FFWPU then offered a prayer, which was followed by Bonnie Nichols offering a prayer on behalf of the Native American Nation of the Navahos. We concluded the prayer for peace by singing a song of unity. |

Third Annual “Imagine Peacefest” Salt Lake City – UN International Day of PeaceSalt Lake City Main Library Plaza, September 20, 2008 |

On September 20, 2008 the Universal Peace Federation participated in the Third Annual “Imagine Peacefest” which was convened in support of the UN International Day of Peace. Various organizations working for peace placed their tables around the Salt Lake City Main Library plaza while musicians played in the nearby amphitheatre. Many local artists had written their own music around the theme of peace and had donated their time to perform to draw people to the event.
The event also had an art display of school children’s art depicting their ideas of peace. In addition, film screenings and a panel discussion took place in the library auditorium.
The UPF table promoted the local Ambassadors for Peace initiative and upcoming seminars. Unfortunately, the weather challenged us with gusty winds creating havoc with literature displays, until finally the rain came sending all scurrying for inside shelter. |
